What Is a Contingency Fee?

Contingency Fee is a legal fee arrangement in which an attorney receives payment from a client’s recovery instead of charging an upfront hourly fee. The written agreement explains how the fee is calculated, which case expenses may be deducted, and what happens if the claim does not produce a recovery.

How Contingency Fee Works

A Contingency Fee agreement sets the payment terms between you and your attorney before work begins. The agreement identifies the recovery that triggers a fee and explains how the fee will be calculated. It also addresses case expenses, such as charges for obtaining records or reviewing evidence.

In a car accident claim, the attorney usually receives payment from money recovered through a settlement or judgment. The amount can depend on the work required, the stage of the claim, and the terms of the agreement. Car Accident Claims may involve negotiations with an insurer, evidence review, and questions about fault. A written agreement keeps those terms clear while the claim proceeds.
