What Is a Demand Letter?

Demand Letter is a formal written request for payment or another resolution after a legal dispute. In a personal injury claim, the letter usually explains how the event happened, identifies the responsible party, describes the injuries, and presents supporting records. The letter seeks settlement before the dispute moves into formal litigation.

How Demand Letter Works

Demand Letter works as a structured presentation of a personal injury claim to an insurer, business, or other responsible party. The writer describes the accident, connects the event to the claimed injuries, and identifies the resolution sought. Medical records, bills, wage records, photographs, and other documents may support the account.

The recipient reviews the facts and may accept the proposal, respond with different terms, request more information, or deny responsibility. A demand letter can guide settlement discussions, but it does not start a court case. The letter also helps organize the claim record by placing the incident, losses, and supporting evidence in one written communication. Medical Records and Economic Damages often help explain the claimed losses.
